About Us

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing peace into the Rapid City community by educating our future generation. Our organization aims to promote peace by teaching the youth about how they can become a beacon of peace within their own community.

Our Story

The story of the organization started with my mother being Japanese. Being a second generation Japanese-American, the contrast between the two cultures was always present. I go to Japan every summer and during one of these trips, I visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park located in my hometown. Within the memorial, there was a strong narrative of peace despite everything that had happened between Japan and America during the war. It was eye opening to see how two  cultures could be so intertwined yet have so much conflict. Therefore, I was motivated to start this project to speak about peace to bridge my two cultures together. I wanted to be able to teach the future generations about peace and bringing peace into their own lives, leading to this project. Although its difficult for one person to change the world, like the idea of the butterfly effect, one person can have an impact on a larger, complex system.

How we got started

Beginning with a small idea for a passion project, "What are you a Peace of" grew into something much bigger. By presenting and working with various elementary schools as well as programs in Rapid City, the mission of bringing and advocating peace in the community has flourished!
